During COVID, while restaurants were focusing on premium real estate, consumers were jumping to digital ordering.
The restaurant industry wasn’t quite ready.
Scott Siegel, a restaurant real estate strategist, saw the gap. Kevin Pidduck, a founder and CEO of a vacation rental platform, knew the root cause: unlike hotels and airlines, restaurants lacked a real-time “availability engine.”
That’s why they built Curbit — to help restaurant brands win back guest trust in a digital-first world.
How we got started
Kevin and Scott launched Curbit in 2019 to democratize the convenience of the drive-thru. Our vision was simple: tech-enable inline real estate with a virtual drive-thru, where guests could order online, drive into a parking lot, and have staff magically waiting for a seamless handoff. Everyone agreed: It's really cool and useful tech.
Then the pandemic hit, and pickup and delivery demand skyrocketed. Suddenly, real-time systems that could accurately inform guests and drivers when to arrive became essential. We expected this data to be found in point-of-sale systems but were surprised to find it didn’t exist.
That’s when we seized the moment.
In late 2020, we shut down the Curbit app and went on to develop integrations with all major KDS providers to ingest real-time kitchen data. This allowed us to accurately inform guests and delivery drivers when to arrive, solving one of the industry’s biggest challenges.
Today, our team has grown to 17, focused on executing on the increasing demand, working with brands such as Cava, Smashburger, and Pei Wei and many others. Our goal is to be the fasted growing restaurant technology company ever with powering 100,000 locations by 2028.
